The Education Trust and Chalkbeat present students in conversation with U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
As Secretary Cardona sets a path forward to recover from the pandemic and craft an equity-driven agenda for the nation’s schools, it’s essential he hear from those who are directly impacted by education policies: students — in their own voices.
On June 24 at 7 PM ET, The Education Trust and Chalkbeat will present In Their Voices: Students Speak with Secretary Cardona, a free, virtual event where students panelists will share their own experiences of learning during a pandemic and ask the Secretary questions about the policy changes they seek in their schools, districts, and communities. Participants will be able to engage in a discussion with other equity-focused advocates about these critical issues.
Six high school students from across the country will join Dr. Cardona in conversation to discuss topics including digital access, college affordability, and the future of equity in education:
- Trey Cuningham, Student at Haywood High School, Brownsville, Tennessee
- Elizabeth Jaramillo, Student at Western International High School, Detroit, Michigan
- Joaquin Martinez, Student at Western International High School, Detroit, Michigan
- Chinaya Mason, Student at Austin East Magnet High School, Knoxville, Tennessee
- Zadane Russell, Student at Academy for Scholarship and Entrepreneurship: A College Board School, Bronx, New York
- Kenneth Usoh, Student at Science Skills Center High School, Brooklyn, New York
