Goodbye to a Friend

We are saddened to share the news that Barbara Orwig, a member of NAPE’s Education Foundation Board and Business Alliance Council and a source of support, wisdom, and inspiration to many in the equity world, died on Monday, December 1 following a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Barb is survived by her husband, Tom, her son, Chris, and five brothers and sisters.

Barb was co-founder and president of Career Communications, Inc., a Kansas-based publications company that specialized in publications geared for students and their parents to explore career paths within occupations. The publication, American Careers magazine, received a publishing award earlier this year.

Barb was the first recipient of the NAPE Education Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010.

It has been our pleasure and honor to count Barb as one of our friends.  Her contributions to and love of NAPE and its Education Foundation were directly from her heart, and we have all been the beneficiaries. We will miss her presence among us.
