3M Ingenuity Grants and DonorsChoose.org

NAPE would like you to know about an opportunity for teachers to receive classroom materials, resources, and supplies through 3M Ingenuity grants and DonorsChoose.org.

As a science-based company, Change the Equation member 3M invests in programs that encourage student awareness of, and interest in, STEM. Since 2003, 3M Ingenuity Grants have directed more than $3.6 million dollars to schools in 3M communities. The grant program is just one component of 3M’s charitable giving to educational causes. Already, the program has invested in almost 200 STEM projects in 25 states through DonorsChoose.org. This is a great opportunity for teachers to increase the visibility of STEMworks programs for 3M and other donors. 3M Ingenuity grants will complete funding by October 31, 2015; projects submitted to DonorsChoose.org will remain on the site after that time, where 70% of all projects get fully funded.

If you feel that this opportunity would be valuable to your network of teachers, please use the message below to communicate to your teachers.

“I wanted to let you know about a new opportunity to get supplies, equipment, or other resources for your efforts to implement << program >> through DonorsChoose.org. As part of its Ingenuity Grant program, 3M invests in STEM projects in 25 states through DonorsChoose.org. This is a great opportunity for teachers involved in <<program>> to increase their visibility in 3M communities.

To enjoy this visibility, you should indicate in your DonorsChoose.org project description that << program >> is a STEMworks program. Change the Equation, a DC-based STEM education nonprofit of which 3M is a member, has included << program >> in its prestigious STEMworks honor roll of the nation’s most effective STEM education efforts. Projects mentioning their connection to STEMworks will have a leg up in their funding request.

Of course, any project mentioning STEMworks should have a legitimate connection to << program >>. [You may want add some language here to ensure that your teachers’ projects support the fidelity of the program.]

Ingenuity grants will complete funding by October 31, 2015. While there is no guarantee your project would get funded, projects submitted to DonorsChoose.org will remain on the site after October, and 70% of all projects submitted to the site get fully funded. To get started, visit http://www.donorschoose.org/teachers”

PS… It’s critical that the teachers actually write the word “STEMworks” in their descriptions—spelled exactly that way—or 3M sites will not be able to find the program in their search. They can indicate that STEMworks is a very prestigious designation of quality and impact.
