Description
This 90-minute virtual workshop can assist educators and counselors in transforming their practice to foster a growth mindset in themselves and in their students. The workshop will provide an overview of growth mindset, including key characteristics, benefits and strategies to employ in the classroom. Participants will be asked to engage fully in the workshop through activities such as identifying mindset characteristics, reflecting on personal experiences with mindset, considering how to change practices to foster a growth mindset and more. This webinar aligns with the “Realizing Potential with Mindset” Toolkit, featuring research-based strategies and turn-key activities.
Intended Audience
Secondary, Community College and State level administrators/faculty/staff and program coordinators/counselors/advisors interested in increasing the participation and completion of students in STEM and CTE programs.
Objectives
- Identify behaviors associated with fixed and growth mindset
- Articulate the benefits of a growth mindset for all students
- Apply strategies to promote a growth mindset in your own practice
Presenters
Michelle Brown is the Curriculum Projects Manager for NAPE. She has helped develop several online courses, curriculum and toolkits including work on growth mindset and self-efficacy. Prior to her work with NAPE, Michelle taught middle and high school science and has been a STEM instructional coach for 3 years. | |
Monique Cola, PhD, is a former Assistant Professor of Neurology at Tulane University, where she held faculty appointments in the Department of Neurology and with the Neuroscience Program. Monique taught and maintained an active research program using MRI to study cognitive dysfunction in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease. Her personal endeavor is to expose and to increase participation of girls and underrepresented minority students in STEM careers. Currently, she serves as the Assistant to Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs/Executive Dean at Delgado Community College in New Orleans. | |
Meagan Pollock, PhD, is the Director of Professional Development for NAPE. In this role, Meagan leads a national team of equity professionals and the development of programs and products that build educators’ capacity to implement effective solutions for increasing student access, educational equity and workforce diversity. Before turning her focus on the intersection of education and equity, Meagan worked as an engineer for Texas Instruments. |
