This is particularly important considering erroneous perceptions and stereotypes that students may have adopted over the course of their educational careers.
Certificate: Upon completion of the module, you will be able to print a certificate of completion to provide to your institution’s human resources office for evidence of continuing education.
Audience: Educators, Counselors, Advisors, Administrators (NOTE: the theories, principles and strategies are useful for K-12 and post secondary, however many of the examples focus on a secondary setting.)
Length: ~1-2 hours
At the end of this module, you should be able to:
- Share the demand, opportunity, and multiple pathways available to your students in STEM careers.
- Describe STEM careers to your students using the following messages: a) STEM professionals make a world of difference and help shape our future; b) STEM careers are essential to our health, happiness, and safety; and c) STEM professionals are creative and collaborative problem-solvers.
- Relate STEM careers to the basic work values (intrinsic, extrinsic, social, prestige); thus increasing interest and awareness for your students.
